Out here in rural eastern North Carolina we are good stewards of the land. After all, we grow, harvest and deliver delicious sweet potatoes to dinner tables all over the world.
Recently, and after a lot of thought, we decided to try our hand at creating a great vodka made from the fruits of our own labor ? so to speak. As it turns out, sweet potatoes (ipomoea batatas) make an excellent vodka ? and why not ? folks have been making potato vodka for the past 300 years.
COVINGTON? gourmet vodka is handmade locally from seedling to bottling. It's expertly crafted in small batches using a combination of traditional and modern distilling practices. Our unhurried approach and varietal selection of locally grown COVINGTON? sweet potatoes costs us a little more, however, it does create truly outstanding vodka.
Tasting notes: Remarkably smooth and rich with subtle creamy undertones ? with not even the slightest hint of heat on the long and level finish.
This degree of artisanal quality is a rare find in an age of over-hyped packaging and celebrity endorsements ?
it is certainly never found in ordinary mass-produced vodka at any price.
We owe our good fortune to the miracles of mother nature and to the small family farmers who plow the fertile soils of North Carolina ? home to the world's best sweet potatoes and this exceptional vodka.
