Our Story Hip Bag Several years ago, co-founder Janet Sharp-Freedman and her family were visiting Africa on a vacation. Prone to back trouble, Janet found it uncomfortable to carry a purse while exploring South Africa. The added weight on her shoulders made it difficult to carry her children or any additional items purchased along the way. One afternoon, while walking through a local market, Janet spotted a woman wearing a bag around her hips that was unlike anything she had seen before. It was more than a fanny pack, less than a backpack and left her hands completely free. While much more basic in design, Janet realized that a more fashionable, higher quality bag utilizing the same core concept could dramatically improve her life and others. Drawing on her background in biomechanics and kinesiology, Janet went home and designed a bag for herself and later for her friends with similar needs.
