Buying Tip Continued - Read more on Made in America Products by Shearline Boatworks At Shearline, our goal is to exceed our owners' expectations. In order to achieve this, we empower all of our team members to think like owners. As a result, our employees are firmly focused on improving and developing innovative solutions and designs to add to our best practices. This focus translates into a tremendous amount of pride among our crew as well as among our owners as each boat comes out of our shop. We consider every employee and every owner, both past and present, part of the Shearline family. OUR PROCESS Building a Shearline boat starts with meeting with our team of designers to discuss what our clients and their families want out of their next boat. Those conversations include where and how they will be using their boat, what type of amenities are important to their enjoyment, what their travel plans may be with their boat, how many people they would like to accommodate, etc. Once we have established the priorities they have for their boat, we move into the design phase. Utilizing fully parametric engineering software, we then turn these ideas into a 3-D model and begin the optimization process. This has proven to be a very effective way of keeping everyone on th same page which allows the client to actively participate in the design process. After several iterations, the design becomes finalized with the client knowing the details of how their boat is to be built. With an accurate CAD model in hand, the hull jig is developed and CNC stations are cut to ensure that what we have all seen in the 3-D model will be exactly what we build on the shop floor. Throughout the build process, additional details are readily available which results in a very efficient build schedule. Once the design is complete, we employ traditional North Carolina construction techniques to build the boat, by hand. Each hull is cold-molded using the finest marine grade plywoods available, hand laid fiberglass and epoxy resins. Once every surface is encapsulated in fiberglass, we enter an extensive fairing process utilizing the best paints available as well. Before the boat is flipped, we paint each hull black to ensure that the resins have cured to a higher temperature than a lighter color will reach. The black color is also very unforgiving when it comes to fairness, so we can see any imperfections there may be under the painted surface and correct them before the boat is painted its final color. Once the hull is flipped, we install structural bulkheads at strategic points, and install the tankage, engines and systems. She is then ready for decks, interior construction, and cockpit and bridge amenities and layout. All of the visible surfaces, including bilges, boxes, inside settees, engine and mechanical rooms and places one might not expect to see slick painted surfaces, are then faired and painted to the highest standards. She's then ready for her top or tower and electronics, which are also completed in-house. After initial sea trials and testing of all systems, the newest member of the Shearline family is ready for delivery! OUR PARTNERSHIP The Shearline client has the ability to design every aspect of the project. Our owners are encouraged to visit our shop as often as they would like, as there are many decisions and choices that go into a custom project and the more our owners are engaged, the better equipped we are to build them the best boat possible. This involvement helps us build strong relationships with our clients and builds a sense of pride of ownership that is unique to Shearline owners. |
