The Tip is 'Where They're Proud' I recently saw an ad in our local newspaper for a big box home improvement store. Their newspaper ad had USA made products and American flags all over it. Several weeks later, I checked the ad again and sure enough they were still advertising their American made products. It was obvious they are proud to carry products Made in America. Their competitors made no mention of things Made in America. I have been to this store and asked what products are made in the USA? A clerk told me they primarily carry imports. Obviously they are not proud. I now realize you can buy many Made in the USA building supplies, including tools Made in USA and appliances Made in USA., in stores that are proud to carry brands Made in the USA. Here is another example of a store proudly carrying products Made in the USA. I was shopping for men's shoes in a local department store when I tried on three different pairs of shoes. I couldn't decide which pair I wanted so I went out on a limb and asked the clerk, "Are these shoes imports?" The salesman said "yes they are" so I asked, "Do you have any Made in America shoes like these?". To my surprise he said, with GREAT PRIDE, "yes sir, we have a whole line of Made In USA shoes". He brought me the same color and style with the Made in USA label. These Made in America shoes were less expensive, came with a better warranty, and were more comfortable. Buying Tip Continued - Read more on Made in America Products by Sundace Sheepskin & Leather Each and every one of our products is handmade by the Anderson family from the finest American materials. The quality and comfort of our products reflects the care that goes into each and every thing that we make. For 38 years we have been designing, wearing, and improving our products with comfort and durability in mind. The Materials We Use Although many of our materials are available at a lower cost through overseas suppliers, it is important to us to support and buy from American and local suppliers whenever possible. All of our sheepskins come from cold climate Colorado and New Mexico sheep that have a superior, thicker pile and therefore create a warmer, more comfortable and more durable product. The American techniques and standards for tanning also produce a much higher quality of sheepskin and leather, and conform to strict EPA guidelines that help protect the global environment. Buying from Sundance not only supports us, but local sheep ranchers as well. Care Instructions All of our products are washable. We recommend hand washing in cold water with a mild soap such as Ivory. They can then be formed and air dried. Waterproof, if desired, with a silicone spray or mink oil. Our Guarantee We take much pride in the quality of our work. All our products carry a satisfaction guarantee and a 1 year warranty on materials and workmanship. And after that one year we will always gladly repair our own work for a small fee. About our business Sundance Sheepskin and Leather was established as a family business in 1971. Now, 38 years later we pride ourselves in still being a small family owned and operated business. We hand make all of our products in a small workshop out of our home in our small Colorado mountain town of Guffey. Since 1976 we have been marketing our products at judged arts and crafts fairs, as well as running a mail order business. We attend approximately 20 shows annually in a six state region. Call us for show schedules and information. Green business practices The Sundance family is committed to doing what we can to help the environment. We realize that the shoe industry is not the most environmentally friendly industry, but here are a few reasons that buying from Sundance can help make a difference: *We have eliminated the toluene based adhesives from our product lines and have gone to a natural rubber based glue with stitched on techniques. Healthier for us and for the environment. *We buy only US materials tanned locally, thus eliminating the huge amounts of oil required to ship materials from China and other parts of the world and reducing the carbon footprint of producing our products. *The US tanneries that we use are subject to much higher environmental standards than their foreign competitors. *We re-use cardboard boxes for all of our shipping and recycle anything we can. *We ship all orders using UPS Carbon Neutral shipping to offset the environmental impacts of shipping. *All of the Sundance Family lives within walking distance of our workshop! *Our workshop is a highly efficient, passive solar design with wood heat. *We are looking into the feasibility of installing an active solar and wind powered electric system to power our workshop - we'll keep you posted on the progress. *Our retail store in Buena Vista is partially powered by a full PV solar array on our roof - taking advantage of the sunny Colorado days! *Creating products from sheepskin is using an otherwise wasted byproduct of the wool and lamb industry. Sheep are not raised solely for their skins. *We are always looking for new ways to improve our practices and reduce our impact on our Mother Earth. So, put on your warm fuzzy Sundance Sheepskin Slippers and turn down the thermostat! |
