Touch ?n Seal and Touch ?n Foam products are entirely BPE-Free, and are not / will not be affected by any current or pending legislation targeted at banning brominated flame retardants. As of January, 2006, 14 states have enacted, or are in the process of enacting, legislation to ban specific brominated flame retardants. Numerous scientific studies have found some brominated flame retardants have leached into groundwater from landfills, ultimately ending up in the human bloodstream. Because of a solid body of scientific evidence, many states are now being proactive by restricting the usage of these compounds. The chemical compounds are generally called BPEs (brominated diphenyl ethers), or PBPEs (polybrominated diphenyl ethers), and the specific compounds under the threat of a ban are penta-BPEs, octa-BPEs, and deca-BPEs. They are commonly used in electronic applications, and sometimes in polyurethane spray foams. This legislation will have no effect on any Touch ?n Seal or Touch ?n Foam product. |
