The Tip is 'Don't procrastinate' For years I've been buying ink jet cartridges from a big box office supply store. These cartridges were made overseas and labeled with the well-known brand of a large American printer company. One I remembered a local store that advertised quality cartridges. I had traveled by this local store hundreds of times but never stopped. This time I stopped at the local store. To my surprise I discovered that they carried the cartridge I needed and it was a Made in USA cartridge. Made in Chicago, to be precise, and it was half the price of the imported ones I had been buying for years. The quality is exceptional and they last longer too. Who knew? After that experience, I make a point to stop at every store I can. By doing so, I've been finding more and more Made in America products. Occasionally the clerks don't know the country of origin; this can be discouraging but finding the origin information yourself isn't difficult I've come to realize. Believe it not, there are actually a number of computers made in the US including laptops made in the USA. When the label is not visibly displayed I use the other Made in America buying tips to help me find Made in US. If the store doesn't carry what you are looking for, use Made in America Secrets to find it and tell the manager about your experience at their store. If enough people are asking for Made in America products stores will begin to carry them. Buying Tip Continued - Read more on Made in America Products by Ancesserie Ancesserie is Old French for ancestry. As a child growing up in Edgefield, SC, my mother would bring freshly-inked calling cards as her gift to a friend's birthday party. Fresh off her father's printing press at The Edgefield Advertiser, these cards were a unique gift and also an expression of one family's role as journalists, documenting and celebrating life in their community. Calling cards are a long-held tradition dating back to the Victorian Era when visitors left a card to indicate they had called or stopped by. Today, including personalized cards with your gifts is as much about creativity as formality - especially for birthday, wedding, shower and graduation gifts. Letterpress is the earliest form of printing. Ancesserie's line of stationery is all handcrafted using late 19th and early 20th century letterpress type and engravings belonging to the longest running newspaper in South Carolina, one that has been in my family for four generations! These images tell a story of when time stood still. We have also expanded our treasure trove of artwork to include period engravings, embellished to suit Ancesserie's style, and collaborations with talented artists. We believe you will find our letterpress to be a world apart, one that is historical, understated, luxurious, timeless and, quite simply, beautiful. Each piece is thoughtfully designed using the finest selection of papers available that are both eco-friendly and ideal for letterpress. We print one piece at a time, with foot, pedal, muscle and determination to bring you the very best in quality and craftsmanship. Our presses are the same style presses my Ancestors used in the late 1800's. As is the nature of letterpress, each impression will have its own unique variation of ink coverage and depth of impression, creating a rich, exquisite note equally wonderful to the touch. As I excavate, there is so much beauty to celebrate. Lydia |
