The Tip is 'Don't procrastinate'

For years I've been buying ink jet cartridges from a big box office supply store. These cartridges were made overseas and labeled with the well-known brand of a large American printer company.

One I remembered a local store that advertised quality cartridges. I had traveled by this local store hundreds of times but never stopped. This time I stopped at the local store. To my surprise I discovered that they carried the cartridge I needed and it was a Made in USA cartridge. Made in Chicago, to be precise, and it was half the price of the imported ones I had been buying for years. The quality is exceptional and they last longer too. Who knew?

After that experience, I make a point to stop at every store I can. By doing so, I've been finding more and more Made in America products. Occasionally the clerks don't know the country of origin; this can be discouraging but finding the origin information yourself isn't difficult I've come to realize.

Believe it not, there are actually a number of computers made in the US including laptops made in the USA.

When the label is not visibly displayed I use the other Made in America buying tips to help me find Made in US. My decision to start Grampa's Garden in 1993 came from my extreme interest in health, my background in Physical Therapy and a hearts desire to help heal the world more naturally.

It all began in my home and all that encompasses

I truly had such a passion that nothing was able to stop me. I simply had that full belief that I was on the right path so the effort came easily. The hours were intense but so rewarding, I did not notice.

Being single helped with keeping up this pace. No loan money the first years also made this trek quite vigorous. Some weeks we would do up to 8 shows to get the products out there.

I started with 3 Hot and Cold Packs: The Lumbar, Joint Neck and Teddy Pac. One herbal skin and massage oil and a Peppermint Bees Wax Lip Balm. So let's fast forward!

After about 10 years in to operating Grampa's Garden out of our homes, I decided to move it to one central location. We continued to give sub contract work to stay at home men and women as well as in-house manufacturing.

Currently the Garden is full of new and innovative products. Come along with me on the journey of a small dream with a big heart-felt desire that has grown to have nearly 200 items, and they mostly Made in Maine/USA!
