Japanese Weekend Maternity owner/designer Barbie White majored in dance at the University of Oregon. After moving to San Francisco in the mid-seventies, she founded Oblong Rhonda, an urban modern dance company. Japanese Weekend was named after a dance performance choreographed by Barbie in the late seventies. White's experience with dance has aided her ability to design for the moving, changing body.

Japanese Weekend Maternity designs have changed the way mothers-to-be look at maternity wear. Gone are the days of sloppy upsizing and non-functional clothing. Gone are the big bows and Peter Pan collars of traditional maternity wear. Japanese Weekend Maternity offers contemporary, functional and comfortable clothing, made with quality fabrics and solid construction. Because of White's care and fashion-forward designs, a modern day woman can feel assured that she looks good while being comfortable from the early months of pregnancy throughout her nursing days.

Japanese Weekend Maternity is at the forefront of the maternity clothing revolution. The company has patented several designs that are innovative and fashionable, which include the Ok? Support Waistband, The hug a boo? Line, and the one-of-a kind MamaCoat?.

As the company has grown up around her, Barbie White is constantly looking for ways to make pregnancy and early motherhood days a wonderful experience. This is a time in a woman's life when she wants to look as beautiful on the outside as she is feeling on the inside, White explains. And as she's feeling good on the outside, she will feel even better on the inside. I'm happy Japanese Weekend Maternity can make it all work together.

Made in USA
Here at Japanese Weekend we are committed to keeping our production in our community whenever we can. All of our designing, sample sewing, and shipping takes place in our San Francisco based headquarters, and nearly all of our garments are manufactured in San Francisco and Oakland. We also pride ourselves on using California made fabrics whenever possible. Those few styles that are produced elsewhere are clearly marked on our website. Crafting as much of our product as we can close to our corporate home is a very high priority for Japanese Weekend, and we value customers who seek us out for that reason!

What does Made in USA mean?
There is no law requiring most products to be labeled Made In USA, or have any other disclosure about the amount of U.S. content. However, for job creation purposes (see our Big Secret tab), if you have a choice between an imported product and one with no country of origin on its label, choose the product without a country of origin over the imported one. This is true because the product without the country origin on its label has at least some American labor in its content and the imported one most likely does not.

Note: Imported products are required by law to country of origin on their label and products partially Made In USA do not. To answer this question completely reviewing our Labeling Tips 1, 2 & 3. These tips are accessible from scrolling to the bottom of our home page clicking Browse All Tips button.
